To Fangirl, or Not to Fangirl?

via Pinterest
It’s become abundantly clear to me that I am a fangirl, if not because I know all about what I pin on
Pinterest, then because I was up until two yesterday (or, today, I guess; it’s Tuesday) writing about teen pregnancy as an issue that should have been discussed at Camp Half-Blood.

That’s the sort of thing I can talk about: details. My dad said something to that effect when he read my philosophy final, like, “You watch too much TV.” And he meant that as like, I watch too much TV, but also, I read WAY into the story.

Usually I just talk about fandom stuff with my best friend, but I could probably host some interesting discussions about stuff. I was thinking about making it a Saturday feature for the duration of the summer.

So, I have two questions. What do you think? Would me reading into random details sound cool?

And, two, what fandoms do we overlap on? These are mine, and I know that I can talk about them… Which ones would you like to listen about?

(Heads Up: The book part of the deal might not be as fluid as I’d like just because all of my books are packed up right now and it’s hard to write stuff away from the source.)

Which Fandoms Would You Find Interesting to Read About?

I know there are some things that I’m going to do regardless of voting. Ana was confused about Twilight being a religious allegory and I couldn’t do it justice in a comment, so I’ll explain that somewhere. I was thinking about talking about V for Vendetta and Phantom of the Opera as parallels, so maybe we’ll do that. And maybe I could talk about why I don’t like the morality presented in Harry Potter (because it’s boring) but that’s all for that guy.

I dunno. Should this be a thing? It could be a thing. We’ll see what things happen soon.

Do you want this to be a thing? Does it sound cool? Or boring? Do tell.

  2. Let this be a thing. Seriously, it would be fabulous to have more fangirls around! Especially the V for Vendetta/Phantom of the Opera one -- we need to have that. Seriously.

    1. Judging by the fact that there are ten votes in already and I didn't think I was going to get five, I am going to go with this. And yes, V for Vendetta and PotO is totally on my list. :D

  4. ALL FANGIRLING ALL THE TIME!!!

    Ahem.

But seriously, I would love to flail about fandoms. :) I don't even care if half the post is gibberish from flailing so hard. I'll read it, I'll comment, and I'll freak out with you.

(Also, SHERLOCK SHERLOCK SHERLOCK. That is all.)

    1. YES. ALWAYS!

I would love to flail with you, and freak out, and reading and things! Sherlock is brilliant, no? I will have to talk about that to get some flailing done! :D

  5. So I'm new here. I don't know if what I say counts that much. But this sounds really cool! I would definitely read it.

Phantom of the Opera? Yes! And Sherlock always.

      Yes, they're both great! :)

  6. Oh, this sounds like a fun feature! I won't lie, I'm not much of a fangirl, but I'd still love to see your thoughts on different fandoms.

    1. That's what I'm hoping! I know that fangirling isn't everybody's cup of tea, but I hope they're all interesting.

  7. Don't worry about fangirling a lot, we all basically do that and we don't mind! Haha :D I'm really interested in your future fangirl posts. I'm really not joking! I would love to read what you think of your fandoms!! <3

  8. That sounds great! I am a fangirl, even though I found twilight dumb and boring, extremely centred on a love triangle. But I had to watch V for Vendetta for English, and I like a lot of your books. I'd be interested in your perspective on the morality in Harry Potter, whether or not I agree with it. Anyway, I think this is a wonderful idea.

    1. Well, most people don't like Twilight, but I always share what I think, anyway. :) V for Vendetta is of my favorites, and I won't spend too much time on Harry Potter, but I'd enjoy your input as well. Thanks for your support, Shar!

  9. I say this should be a thing. Reading deeply into things and analyzing stories to the extreme is something I love doing and something I love encouraging other people to do.

Because we are nerds and fangirls and this is what defines us!

(On that note, I will happily delve deeply into Sherlock, various musicals, and multiple books (Les Miz falls neatly into those last two categories) with you and whoever would care to join.)

    1. I don't think it's something I'm super good at, but hopefully with a little practice it will work out better! And you're right, fangirling and geekiness is all our greatest strength! :D

(We shall be having many Sherlock and musical and book parties! Many of them! ALL THE TIME.)

  10. I think this would be a neat thing! I did my part and voted for Star Wars, Firefly, books you read and Disney, which is a kind of odd and fantastically interesting mix. I'm also super up for the Harry Potter discussion, and that Phantom-V post sounds interesting. I'm already fairly aware of the Twilight discussion, but I'm sure it'd still be interesting! I was actually just talking today about reading into things and the like, so this is amusing for me to read today!

    1. I'm glad you think so! All of these things are good—I, myself, love interesting mixes! Harry Potter won't feature much, but Phantom-V is going to be on Saturday, and we'll see what shows up after that. What were you talking about reading into? I'd be curious to learn more about your conversation as well. :D

    2. It was in relation to Fahrenheit 451 and stories that you take away more from the idea of than the actual written text. (:

    3. Oh, how fascinating! I like that idea, a lot, actually.

  11. This needs to be a thing! And I'm totally with you on reading too much into stuff. I don't watch a lot of TV, but I read into the teeniest nuances of everything I do watch, especially character-related stuff. So yes, this would be awesome.
As far as fandoms, I adore Percy Jackson, Star Wars, Marvel stuff, Sherlock, Star Trek, Safe Lands, Hunger Games, Doctor Who, How to Train Your Dragon, Rangers Apprentice... and a whole host of other things that would take way too long to get into. But since I am always happy to find a new fandom, post whatever you like and I will probably enjoy it. :)

    1. Well, it will be a thing, starting tomorrow! Reading into stuff is my favorite, especially with TV, because I find words distracting, more often than not.

It seems we have a lot of overlap! I hope to cover many of those over the next few weeks, and maybe even introduce you to a few new ones. :D

Check it out, comments and stuff. I love to hear from readers, and I always respond to commenters! Here's the fun part—if you leave a link to your blog I'll show up and comment back. I have just one rule down here: Don't Be a Problem. This spans the entire umbrella of rudeness and crudeness, so I reiterate: Don't Be a Problem. Thanks for stopping by!
